It is widely believed that ascendant is not used in Bhrigu Nandi Nadi. Let's discover the truth.
The name "Bhrigu Nandi Nadi" as one BNN system was first used by a Bangalore based palmist and astrologer Sri R.G. Rao.
He published a book by the name Bhrigu Nandi Nadi which he had compiled from two different jyotiṣa systems - Bhrigu nadi and Nandi nadi.
Bhrigu nadi is attributed to Sage Bhrigu whereas Nandi nadi is attributed to Nandi devar, who is also revered as one of the 18 great spiritual masters known as Siddhars in South Indian traditions.
Saying that he did not use lagna is an insult to his expertise in plamistry and thumb reading skills.
Further, here is the evidence from Tamil manuscript of Nandi nadi jyotiṣam that lagna is used in that text.
As we can clearly see that lagna is mentioned and drawn in chart in Nandi nadi manuscript.
As seen in the manuscript, ascendant is explicitly specified as Pisces lagna. The calculations in the chart count bhavas (houses) from Pisces lagna.
Sri R.G. Rao had compiled the available translations from these ancient nadi astrology systems, so how can today's guru's claim that neither Sri Rao nor the Nandi nadi system used lagna?
There is enough verifiable evidence in public domain that clearly establish the fact ascendant is part of Shri R.G Rao and well as orginal Nandi nadi jyotiṣam.
Sri R.G. Rao never used the phrase "Bhrigu Nandi Nadi" in his later books. He called it Rao's system of nadi astrology.
As clearly established, Nandi nadi used lagna, Sri R.G. Rao used lagna then why resist using lagna directly in any nadi astrology that uses Nandi nadi as a base?
That begs a question to be asked, "is it logical to associate the term "Nandi nadi" to any jyotiṣa system that doesn't use ascendant?". Ascendant is used in Nandi nadi manuscript.
Equally important to ask, "is it logical to associate the phrase "Rao's system of nadi astrology" to any jyotiṣa system that doesn't use ascendant?". Ascendant was used by Sri R.G. Rao.
Role of Jupiter, the Jīvā (जीवा)
Jupiter is jeeva of the native hence looking at jīvāt-bhāvam (जीवात्-भावम्) house from Jupiter is definitely a great tool to see the experience of life for jīvātmā (जीवात्मा), but using it as replacement of real ascendant is obviously neither Bhrigu nadi, nor Nandi nadi.
The books by Sri Rao were authored when jyotiṣa softwares were extremely expensive even if someone had access to computer! He used thumb impression to fix lagna but didn't abandon lagna.
Later, some guru's dropped lagna altogether from charts.
Not using lagna forced Jupiter to be pronounced as fallback lagna by successive teachers. Later workarounds were invented e.g. use prashna chart with BNN chart minus real lagna. These are failed attempts at replacing the real lagna with fiction.
For the sake of authentic Jyotiṣa
I strongly urge modern guru's of Bhrigu Nandi Nadi system who resist the usage of ascendant, to teach authentic nadi jyotiṣam. Looking beyond personal ego and the public identity would be in the interest of nadi astrology.
Inviting all teachers/students of BNN (Bhrigu Nandi Nadi) of Sri R.G. Rao - Do you think Sri RG Rao, author of book BNN couldn't understand this or he totally missed it? In fact he fixed lagna from native's thumb.
Curiously, there are NOT dozens of charts in Nandi vakkyam manuscript. Only one - the one revealed in this article!
